Hawaii Winter Baseball Announces 2007 Season Schedule

Hawaii Winter Baseball officials today announced the league's 2007 season plans, featuring a 40-game schedule to be played on Oahu at one of America's most colorful and venerated baseball parks-Hans L'Orange Field in Waipahu-and the inclusion, this season, of 6 games on Maui, at Iron Maehara Stadium and 6 games on the island of Hawaii at Francis Wong Stadium.

"Fans on Oahu enjoy the cozy, up-close atmosphere at Hans," said league president Hervy Kurisu. "It's a great place to watch professional baseball, and we've heard too from fans on Maui and the Big Island that they are looking forward to watching the return of pro baseball to the neighbor islands."

Kurisu explained, that with Les Murakami Stadium's field and stadium renovations likely to take place this Fall, the league made the decision to plan for all Oahu games to be played in Waipahu this year.

The double-headers at Hans L'Orange Field are scheduled to start at noon and will give fans a lot of great professional baseball action to watch," said Kurisu.

The 2007 schedule launches September 29 and continues through the League Championship Game on November 19.

"It's a great chance for everyone to meet all the young professionals who are coming to play in the league. The young pros hope to impress the dozens of Major League Baseball scouts who will fill the stands, alongside the local fans."

The league will again field four teams: Honolulu Sharks, West Oahu CaneFires, North Shore Honu, and Waikiki BeachBoys.

An addition to this year's schedule is an exhibition game Tuesday, November 6, featuring Asia vs USA at 6:30 p.m. Plans are being made to for the video of the game to be sent to Japan for broadcast on one of their national network stations.
