Tallahassee Titans News Release

TALLAHASSEE, FL- The Tallahassee Titans have announced former Canton Legend Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Keven Jackson as their new head football coach. In front of a crowd of nearly 200, Jackson announced his vision for the expansion team of the American Indoor Football League. "I'm looking forward to an exciting first year with the Titans. I believe we have enough talent in the local area to compete for a championship in our first season."

The announcement, taken place during the Tallahassee Quarterback Club's weekly meeting, had some special guests on hand who had fond memories of Jackson in his earlier years. "I remember recruiting Keven out of high school." Said Mickey Andrews, Defensive Coordinator for the Florida State Seminoles, "He was one of the best damn defensive backs I ever saw play at the high school level." Jackie Sherrill, the former head coach at Mississippi State and Texas A&M who was on hand as the TQC's guest speaker also remembers Keven from the recruiting years. "Keven was a tremendous athlete in high school and college. I wish him the best of luck with his new team and hope for their great success for Tallahassee."

Jackson, who is no stranger to the indoor game, played two seasons at the University of Alabama in the mid '90s. During that tenure, Jackson led the SEC in interceptions in both '95 and '96. He was named All SEC both years. During his senior season, Jackson was award with a multitude of honors including 1st Team All American, Walter Camp All American, Coaches Poll All American, Co-MVP Defensive Player of the year, and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation's top defensive back. After graduating college, Jackson played one season with the Arizona Cardinals before starting a four year career in the Arena Football League. In 2004, Jackson returned to the University of Alabama where he worked as a volunteer assistant defensive backs coach for the Tide. He left Alabama when he got the call from Canton Legends Head Coach Bobby Olive to be the teams Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator.

"We believe Kevin is a great choice for our organization," said Josh Stagner, Vice President of Operations for the Tallahassee Titans. "Keven has demonstrated the knowledge and experience we were looking for in our head coach. His knowledge of the indoor game was an important factor in our decision."

The Titans, who begin play in February of 2007, will be holding their first of three open tryouts on October 14th, at Cox Stadium. Registration will begin at 8:00am with official tryouts starting at 9:00am sharp. A $65 tryout fee is assessed for those who wish to tryout.
