SteelHounds Announce Resignation of Jean Laforest

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Jean Laforest has resigned as the head coach and Director of Hockey Operations of the SteelHounds. His resignation was accepted and will be effective immediately.

'I accept the resignation of Jean Laforest allowing him to dedicate his time to focusing on the family issues he is facing," said SteelHounds Owner Herb Washington. "The SteelHounds will begin a search for the second coach in team history immediately and continue our hard work and dedication towards producing a championship level team both on and off the ice."

Laforest was hired as the first head coach in Hounds history on June 1st, 2005 and led the team to a 25-34-5 record during their inaugural season.

In a prepared statement, Laforest cited the desire to focus more of his energies to his family as the reason for his stepping down.

"I thank the SteelHounds for the opportunity extended to me to oversee the hockey program in the team's inaugural year," said Laforest. "I wish the team success in the seasons to come."

The CHL's leading goal scorer last season and SteelHounds Captain Jeff Christian commented on today's events. "We are looking forward as a team to moving forward in a different direction. Myself and all the SteelHounds players are committed to this town and team."

The SteelHounds open their second season on October 20th in Memphis with the home opener slated for Friday, October 27th in the Chevrolet Centre. Season tickets are available by contacting (330) 747-PUCK (7825).
