BLUFFTON, SC--The South Coast League of Professional Baseball announced today that Charlotte County, Florida has been awarded an inaugural South Coast League franchise. "We are elated to have Charlotte County as a charter member of the South Coast League," stated league Chief Operating Officer Chris Allen. "The Charlotte County community has embraced the South Coast League and we look forward to bringing professional baseball back for the 2007 season."

"Baseball is back in Charlotte County," added Charlotte County Commissioner Tom Moore.

The Charlotte County franchise will play its home games at the Charlotte Sports Park. Opened in 1987, the stadium features a partially covered grandstand, a seating capacity of 6,000, seven luxury suites, and a group picnic area down the left field line. The complex is the former spring training home of the Texas Range s and their Class-A Florida State League affiliate. After the Rangers left following the 2002 season, the stadium has hosted the KIA Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization, as well as many amateur baseball tournaments and concerts.

The energy created by the new baseball agreement truly fits in with Charlotte County's reuse plan. The agreement also fits well within the current stadium schedule and still leaves a great deal of flexibility in the future," remarked Director of Charlotte County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Laura Kleiss Hoeft.

Charlotte County and Macon, Georgia will be joined by four other SCL charter franchises. The South Coast League is a six-team based independent professional baseball league located in the Southeastern U.S. First pitch is scheduled for May of 2007.
