GLIFL Conducts First Owners Meeting

December 12, 2005 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release

The Great Lakes Indoor Football League conducted its first Owner's Meeting this past weekend on December 10, and it was a success. All six member teams were present, and all important topics concerning the league's inaugural 2006 season were discussed.

The meeting was conducted partially as a way to introduce the six team managements to one-another. Also, the meeting performed as a way to explain what the league expects of them, and what they expect of one-another. The meetings opened with each team introducing itself, and explaining the progress they have made to date. "We are impressed with the progress that each team has made thus far. They are all well-organized, and this will allow all of the teams to be a success," said GLIFL co-founder Jeff Spitaleri.

The league has also decided on a playoff structure to implement after the 10-game season. The top four teams in the league will make the playoffs. The #4 seed will travel to the #1 seed, and the #3 seed will travel to the #2 seed. The top seed that wins its first playoff game will host the inaugural GLIFL Championship Game.

Spitaleri was pleased about not only team progress, but the entire meeting itself. "It went as expected," he said. "We were able to get the owners all together for the first time, and really hammer out what we felt was most important. We now have a finalized 10-game schedule for each team, and the playoff structure."

It was also determined at the meetings that the league's first franchise, the Lehigh Valley Outlawz, will host the first GLIFL All-Star Game. The game will be played August 5, 2006, at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the site of all six regular season Outlawz home games.

Most importantly, the 2006 GLIFL Schedule was finalized. Each team will play 10 games in 12 weeks, giving them two bye weeks. The NY/NJ Revolution are a traveling squad, which allows the other five member teams to play 6 of their 10 contests at home. Each team will play each other team twice, and it will be a home-and-home format. Each team will host the Revolution twice, and everyone else once. "This format allows us to be able to determine with the 10-game regular season what teams are best," added Spitaleri. "There is no imbalance with this schedule."

The GLIFL opens its inaugural season April 7, 2006 with two games. The Port Huron Pirates travel to Battle Creek to face the Crunch, while the Revolution travel to Rochester. Marion hosts Lehigh Valley on April 8 to complete the league's opening weekend.
