AIFL Announces First TeamOctober 4, 2004 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Rick Matsko, a Conemaugh Township High School graduate will serve as team President. Matsko brings a great understanding of minor league sports to the RiverHawks, he played five years of professional baseball in the Cleveland Indians organization. Rick is the right guy for the job, added Andrew Haines, league founder. He is a Johnstown native and has a great understanding of the entertainment value of professional sports. He knows what it will take to be successful in the Johnstown community."
Matsko commented, I could not be happier to be involved in bringing professional football back to Johnstown. I know the passion that Johnstown has for sports and I look forward to bringing a winning team to the area.
The AIFL is an exciting brand of indoor football beginning play in Spring 2005. The league will bring affordable, family oriented entertainment and fast-paced football action to communities ready to embrace pro football.
We are thrilled to death to have a city like Johnstown be our first team in the league, added Haines, it has a beautiful, newly renovated arena and a great community that is hungry for a professional indoor football team.
