Published on September 21, 2004 under Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
Boston, MA (September 21, 2004) â Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today it has teamed up with The Lacrosse Institute to present the 2004-2005 Titan Tour. The Lacrosse Institute is a division of The Sports Institute, headquartered in Malvern, Pa., which strives to enhance the sporting experience of its participants through various training mediums and lacrosse events. Formed by the MLL in 2002, the Titan Tour is a series of mini-camps designed to help support the growth of lacrosse in emerging areas of the country.
Tom Ryan of The Lacrosse Institute will serve as Director of the Titan Tour. Ryan played professional lacrosse for nine years, including the inaugural season of the New Jersey Pride (MLL) and several years with the Philadelphia Wings. He also has more than ten years of coaching experience at the youth, Junior College, and NCAA Division I and III levels. He most recently coached at Towson University and Loyola College, both NCAA Division I schools.
"We are thrilled to partner with The Lacrosse Institute in presenting the Titan Tour," said MLL commissioner David Gross. "The Titan Tour has proven to be a great way to spread the word about the MLL and the game of lacrosse. We're confident that Tom Ryan and The Lacrosse Institute, along with all of the participating MLL players, will create a wonderful learning opportunity for young lacrosse players."
The Titan Tour's camps are conducted exclusively under the auspices of the MLL as a way to bring cutting edge instruction to non-traditional areas of the country. The two-day clinics are designed for players between the ages of 10 and 18, offering individualized guidance in shooting, dodging, passing, face-offs, defense, goaltending and ground balls. Instruction is provided by some of the world's top players, as well as select college and high school coaches in each camp's respective region.
Along with the camp giveaways, Titan Tour participants will have a chance to win prizes at each clinic. The Great Atlantic Fastest Shot Competition will give the fastest shooters in each age group a chance to win a $500 gift certificate. Cascade will also award the winner of "The Gauntlet" competition a custom CPX Titanium helmet.
MLL counselors for the Titan Tour will include Ryan Boyle, the 2004 Cascade Rookie of the Year and a key member of the 2004 MLL Champion Philadelphia Barrage, and Brian Dougherty of the Long Island Lizards, the 2003 Warrior Goalie of the Year. Position-specific instruction will be provided by MLL stars Conor Gill (Boston Cannons), the 2004 Bud Light Season MVP; 2004 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year Blake Miller (Philadelphia); 2003 Tewaaraton Award winner Chris Rotelli (Boston); attackman Michael Watson (Boston); defensemen Michael Howley (Rochester Rattlers) and Kyle Sweeney (Philadelphia); and 2002 All-World goalie Trevor Tierney (Boston).
This year the Titan Tour will be stopping in such cities as Seattle, Dallas, San Francisco, Orlando and Tampa, FL and Portland, OR. Up-to-date information on the Titan Tour as well as additional information on The Lacrosse Institute is available at www.thelacrosseinstitute.com.
