USL Fox Sports World Game of the Week

June 23, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

Aviators @ Mustangs

This Friday's USL on Fox Sports World A-League match takes place at McMahon Stadium in beautiful Alberta, Canada as the Edmonton Aviators take on the Calgary Mustangs. Broadcast starts at 11:00 pm EDT.

Edmonton Aviators

The Aviators are still looking for their first win of the 2004 campaign as they sit at 0-4-5 on the season. In their first year in the A-League, Edmonton has struggled to score but will look to turn the tide against the Mustangs.

Goalkeeper Jose Luis Campi has been a bright spot for the Aviators, recording a 1.21 GAA which places him 10th in the A-League. He has recorded two shutouts and has 40 saves.

Calgary Mustangs

The Mustangs are coming off of a dramatic 3-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps and are looking to add another win to their 2-7-2 record. Both of Calgary's wins have come in the friendly confines of McMahon Stadium, where they will host the Aviators this Friday.

Reigning A-League Player of the Week Conrad Smith will lead the Mustangs as he leads the team with three goals and one assist for seven points. Smith notched two goals against the Whitecaps to earn POTW honors. Lutz Pfannenstiel has played every minute in goal for Calgary, amassing 42 saves.

History

The two teams have met once already this season, with the result being a 1-1 draw. Edmonton held a one- goal lead into the 90th minute when a stoppage time strike by the Mustangs led to the eventual tie. The two clubs will meet again Monday in Edmonton. Both teams are in need of a 'W' so this should be an exciting match-up! Check it out on Fox Sports World at 11:00 pm ET.
