Survivor Ethan Zohn to join USL on FSW telecasts
June 23, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release
Tampa, FL â United Soccer Leagues (USL) is pleased to announce that Ethan Zohn, Survivor: Africa winner and Survivor: All-Stars participant, will be the sideline reporter for a pair of USL/Fox Sports World broadcasts during the 2004 season.
Zohn will be the third member of the broadcast team for the July 30th match in Vancouver, British Columbia when the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Calgary Mustangs and for the August 13th match in Toronto, Ontario when the Lynx welcome the visiting Syracuse Salty Dogs to town.
Upon graduation from Vassar College, Zohn began a five-year professional soccer career, which included stints with two USL clubs, the Cape Cod Crusaders and the Hawaii Tsunami. His career reached its pinnacle when he journeyed to Zimbabwe to play for Highlanders FC during their 2000/2001 championship season. Ethan then returned to the United States to continue coaching at the youth and college levels.
"We are very excited that Ethan will be a part of these USL telecasts on Fox Sports World," says Director of USL and A-League Operations Tim Holt. "His knowledge of our leagues will serve him well and his popularity will undoubtedly draw new fans to those matches."
Since January 2002 when he was awarded $1 million for being the ultimate "Survivor" on the CBS series Survivor: Africa, Zohn has worked with various non-profit organizations related to youth education through sports and has chosen to emphasize his involvement with his charity, Grassroot Soccer, in numerous public appearances, on his website and in interviews.
Grassroot Soccer is an international AIDS awareness organization. The aim of Grassroot Soccer is to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS by training well-known soccer players to educate at-risk youth about the dangers of HIV infection and about the most effective ways to protect themselves.
