
Thunder looks to ethnic community for players

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Friday, March 19, 2004) â The Minnesota Thunder is providing the opportunity for several ethnic groups to showcase their talent while trying out for the 2004 team. Hmong/Asian, Somali/African, and Hispanic/Latino players are invited to attend the tryouts on Saturday, April 10. There will be three sessions, one for each group, and each are open to the first 100 players to arrive.
"We are very serious about finding ways to integrate ourselves with the ethnic communities," said Thunder President and General Manager Jim Froslid. "These tryouts are designed to find the best players in the metro area."
The Hmong/Asian (9 a.m. â Noon) and Somali/African (1 p.m. â 4 p.m.) tryouts will be held at Corner Kick Indoor Center in Maplewood (1357 Cope Avenue).
The Hispanic/Latino tryouts (4 p.m. - 7 p.m.) will be held at Holy Angels Academy in Richfield (6600 Nicollet Ave. S.).

The Thunder's season kicks off April 25 in the Metrodome where they will face the Calgary Mustangs (kickoff 5 p.m.). The Thunder's debut game in its new home at James Griffin Stadium (I-94 & Lexington Parkway) in St. Paul is May 15 against the Edmonton Aviators (kickoff 6 p.m.).
