AFL Press Release

AFL SIGNINGS
New Jersey-native and former Jets QB GLENN FOLEY has signed with the Gladiators... following a quartet of NFL seasons among 5 different teams, former AFL Ironman of the Year CHAD DUKES has agreed to a one-year contract with the Avengers... Carolina re-signed their leading receiver, AARON BAILEY, who had 19 TD catches during the final 7 games of last season... Buffalo waived former Navy QB JIM KUBIAK, who passed for more than 60 TDs in 2001 -- Kubiak was awarded to Dallas on Monday... 8-year veteran lineman ERNEST ALLEN signed with Orlando.

IN THE NFL
MVP Announced - St. Louis QB KURT WARNER has something Dan Marino and John Elway never achieved: two NFL Most Valuable Player awards. The former Iowa Barnstormer QB won The Associated Press MVP award for the second time in three years today, beating Rams' teammate Marshall Faulk. Warner, the league's leading passer, guided the Rams to the NFL's best record, 14-2.

Playoff Bound - Seven former AFL players have their sights set on a Super Bowl championship ring -- the New York Jets' KEVIN SWAYNE (New York/Iowa), Pittsburgh Steelers QB TOMMY MADDOX (New Jersey, 2000), New England Patriots WR DAVID PATTEN (Albany), St. Louis' Warner and Rams center ANDY MCCOLLUM (former Mustangs lineman), Miami Dolphins WR ORONDE GADSDEN (the former AFL Rookie of the Year is listed as questionable for this weekend), and Oakland Raiders safety JOHNNIE HARRIS (AFL Defensive Player of the Year, 1998).

Only Harris has won an ArenaBowl World Championship -- in 1996, when the Tampa Bay Storm defeated the Iowa Barnstomers, who were led by... yes, Kurt Warner.

ARENA HEROES
New Jersey -- Gladiators lineman LUIS ALMANZAR will be present at School #16 and School #38 in Jersey City, N.J. tomorrow, speaking with 5th grade classes about topics facing school children as part of the team's "Go To School with a Gladiator" program.

Los Angeles -- Avenger mascot "T.D." was busy during the holiday season, attending Centinela Hospital's annual kids holiday party with "A-Team" dancers and players CHRIS JACKSON and MARK RICKS. "T.D." accompanied Avenger staff members to the Children's Institute International holiday party for Child Victims of Crime, held at the organization's headquarters downtown; "T.D." also helped welcome players in the third annual CaliFlorida Bowl High School All-Star game at El Camino College on Jan. 2, greeting family and fans in attendance.

CHAMPIONS ON ICE
The ArenaBowl XV World Champion Grand Rapids Rampage will be honored this Saturday night in a ring ceremony at Van Andel Arena during the first intermission of Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) hockey game.
