Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats suffered another big loss to the Indianapolis Indians, 8-2, Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field following being shutout 9-0 the previous night.

The Indians put themselves on the board early in the first inning after a Chris McGuiness RBI double scored Jose Tabata and Brent Morel. Chase d'Arnaud added another in the second with a RBI single and McGuiness extended their lead to 4-0 after a solo shot in the third. They tacked on two more in the sixth to go up 6-0.

Rafael Perez, Indianapolis' left-handed starter, pitched six shutout innings until the Bats started a rally in the seventh inning. Neftali Soto scored when Jake Elmore grounded into a force out and Donald Lutz was brought across the plate on Bryan Anderson's RBI single to give the Bats two runs and make it a 6-2 ballgame.

Before Soto's run scored, the Bats had not scored a run in 17 innings, dating back to the seventh inning on August 14 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

A throwing error by third baseman Hernan Iribarren in the ninth inning caused the Indians to plate two more and make the final score 8-2.

Right-hander Mikey O'Brien (0-2, 5.63) suffered the loss for Louisville after Cincinnati purchased the contract of scheduled starter Dylan Axelrod. O'Brien pitched five plus innings allowing six runs on seven hits, four walks, three strikeouts, a home run and a hit batter. Nick Christiani relieved him in the sixth inning, walking one and striking out one in two innings of work.

Perez (2-0, 1.59) earned the win for the Indians. He lasted six and one-third innings, giving up two runs on five hits, a walk and three strikeouts.

Brandon Phillips continued his Major League rehab going 0-for-3 on the night. During his two rehab games with Louisville he went 0-for-5 with a walk. He will continue his rehab in low-A Dayton starting tomorrow.

Louisville (62-66) will travel to Indianapolis (64-64) for game three of the six-game split series tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Right-hander Brett Marshall (0-9, 8.17) will take the mound for the Bats against Indy's righty Casey Sadler (9-4, 3.06).
