Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks pulled another rabbit out of the hat Wednesday night. Down four runs early, backup catcher Zak Farkes hit two home runs and Tony Granadillo hit a RBI single in the eighth inning to help the JetHawks come from behind and beat the High Desert Mavericks 7-6 in Adelanto. The JetHawks have won a season-high seven games in a row, including the last three on the road. At 37-29 the JetHawks have the best record in the California League. The JetHawks stay tied with the Inland Empire 66ers for first place in the Southern Division with just four games left in the first half. The final three games of the half pit the two teams against each other in San Bernardino.

Zak Farkes, who has become the regular catcher when knuckleball pitcher John Barnes pitches, swung the big bat for Lancaster. His second home run of the game put the JetHawks on top 6-5 in the fifth inning after the team had fallen behind early.

There was a scary moment in the fourth inning when a Ryan Khoury line drive hit Mavericks starter Marwin Vega in the head. Vega loaded into an ambulance and driven off the field, but was later released from a local hospital with a mild concussion. After a 17 minute delaly, the game resumed.

The Mavericks tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning, but the JetHawks rallied once more. Mickey Hall and Christian Lara both singled to set up Granadillo's game winning hit. T.J. Large pitched a scoreless inning and third for his second win, and closer Chad Rhoades hurled a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.

Farkes led the offense, going 3-5 with the two home runs and three RBI. Granadillo, Hall, and Bubba Bell each had three hits as well for Lancaster.

The JetHawks continue a seven-game road trip Thursday night at High Desert. Kris Johnson (2-3, 6.91) pitches for the JetHawks. The Mavericks counter with pitcher Ruben Flores (1-3, 7.02). The game starts at 7:05 PM and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM and Fox Sports 610, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com.
