LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln Stars forward Zach Dubinsky has announced his commitment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), a NCAA Division I program in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

"I feel that the direction their program is going, I think, really suits the way I see myself in the future and see myself playing college hockey. I'm definitely really excited," said Dubinsky.

Dubinsky, 17, has played 36 games with the Stars in his rookie season, totalling two goals and eight assists for 10 points with 16 penalty minutes, a +2 rating and one game-winning goal. The Deerfield, Ill. native made his USHL debut with the Stars on October 14 against Des Moines and tallied his first USHL point with an assist on November 11 against Sioux Falls. The 5-foot-7, 177-pound forward was drafted 92nd overall (6th Round) by the Stars in the 2016 USHL Phase II Draft. Prior to joining the Stars, Dubinsky played two seasons with the Chicago Mission U16 program.

Dubinsky had familiarity with the ECAC and RPI before making his decision. His father, Steve, attended Clarkson University, another ECAC program and technological school in New York State. RPI has won three ECAC Tournament Championships and two NCAA Championships, most recently in 1985, while making the NCAA Tournament nine times and the Frozen Four five times. The program is in its 116th season and is the country's oldest technological research university.

"It's a really good school with great academics. It's a great campus that I really see myself being educated on and playing hockey on. The way [the coaching staff] talks about the future and sees themselves, I definitely see myself being a big part of that...The way that I can contribute to the way that they play is very similar to my own mindset, and that's a big factor when deciding where I'm going to college."

Dubinsky joins forward Tristan Ashbrook as the second commitment to RPI this season. Four Stars players have committed to NCAA Division I programs this season, and currently 19 active players are committed to a collegiate program.

The Stars host Faith & Family Day on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:05 p.m. against the Dubuque Fighting Saints with $5 for every ticket benefitting Food for the Hungry. Group and jump-in season tickets for the 2017-18 season are available by calling 402-474-7827. The Stars mobile app is also available in the iTunes and Google Play stores with "tap to buy" tickets, in-game push notifications and a rewards program that puts fans in the skates of a player.
