 Kingsport Axmen

Yankees Comeback to Take Series against K-Mets

July 3, 2018 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Kingsport Axmen News Release

The six-game home stand came to an end Tuesday evening for Kingsport with a disappointing 5-2 setback at the hand of the Pulaski Yankees.

The K-Mets (8-5) got off to a great start thanks to the piggyback of Daison Acosta and Josh Walker, who each threw three scoreless innings and held the Yankees to four hits through six innings.

Kingsport got both of their runs in the fourth frame, first on a Kenny Hernandez sacrifice fly. Then Kingsport right fielder Raul Beracierta connected on an opposite field homer, his second of the seaon to push the lead to 2-0.

Unfortunately for the home crowd, Kingsport couldn't make it stand up, as Pulaski was able to get to the back end of the Kingsport bullpen to the tune of five runs over the final three frames.

The Yankees struck for three runs in the seventh to take the lead, and then plated a pair of runs in the ninth to give closer Ron Marinaccio more than enough breathing room for the bottom of the ninth.

Pulaski reliever Marcus Evey picked up the win by throwing 2.1 scoreless innings, and Marinaccio recorded his first save of the season.

Kingsport will now travel to Elizabethton tomorrow to being a three-game set with the Twins before finishing up the road trip with three in Bluefield.

The K-Mets will be back at home for a seven-game home stand beginning on July 10th as they host the Greeneville Reds in a four-game set before finishing up with three more against the Twins.

The home stand includes promotions such as Camp Day, a K-Mets t-shirt giveaway, Lee Landers bobblehead giveaway, Scout Night, Joe Lasher Jr. pre-game concert, Fun Fest Night, and a fireworks show.
