Women's 3x3 Roster Announced for World Beach Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 7, 2019) - Four athletes today were announced as the USA Basketball women's 3x3 team that will represent the United States at the 2019 World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar, including professionals Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx) and Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces), collegian Ruthy Hebard (University of Oregon) and high school senior Paige Bueckers (Hopkins H.S./St. Louis Park, Minn.).

The team will take part in the inaugural World Beach Games 3x3 women's basketball competition at Katara Beach from Oct. 13-16. Playing in Group A, the USA will open on Oct. 13 versus Dominican Republic at 11:25 a.m. EDT, followed by Jordan at 2:45 p.m. EDT on Oct. 13 and Russia at 11 a.m. EDT on Oct. 15.

Collier, who was the 2019 WNBA Rookie of the Year, recently helped USA Basketball to a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup, and she owns gold medals from the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, the 2014 Youth Olympic Games 3x3 basketball competition and the 2015 FIBA U19 World Cup. She also owns a tournament title from the 2017 U24 Four Nations Tournament in Japan, and as a member of the USA Basketball Women's National Team, she took part in training camps in 2017 and 2018.

Young is the only team member who has not competed in a FIBA event with USA Basketball, however, she took part in the 2017 USA Basketball Women's U23 National Team training camp.

Hebard collected a gold medal at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, silver at the 2018 FIBA U19 World Cup, finished in fifth place at the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup and participated in the 2018 USA Basketball Women's National Team training camp.

Bueckers, who verbally committed to the University of Connecticut, was MVP this past summer in helping the USA to gold at the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. She also won gold medals at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup, the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 3x3 gold at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

The inaugural World Beach Games, which feature beach, water and action sports, are a six-day competition that will include 13 sports and 14 disciplines, with more than 1,200 athletes from 97 nations expected to participate.

The qualification process is different for each sport but draws from world ranking points or the highest finishing places at World Championships or Continental Championships.
