December 31, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

The Shreveport Mudbugs (11-12-4) gave up five unanswered goals and had their six-game winning streak snapped as they lost 5-1 to the New Mexico Ice Wolves at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Friday night.

In a very fast-paced opening period which had minimal stoppages, it was a productive frame for the defending champs. Shreveport scored the game's first goal at 12:27 when Drake Morse flipped in his third goal of the season in front to give the Bugs the 1-0 edge. Jake Mack set up the play and fed Morse in front and earned the only helper on the game's first tally. New Mexico led in SOG, 9-4 after one.

The Wolves stormed back in the 2nd period when Gustav Blom bombed a shot from the right point which found its way through for his second goal of the season to even the score, 1-1 at 11:50. Then it was Blom again at 18:22 who created space in the LW circle and rifled home his second goal of the game to give New Mexico a 2-1 edge. Shreveport couldn't get much going in the middle period as they trailed in SOG, 22-12 after two.

New Mexico picked up where they left off in the third period when Evan Carroll redirected home his second tally of the season just 49 seconds in to extend the Wolves' lead to 3-1. New Mexico's leading point getter Dillan Bentley would add on in the PP when he fired home his 14th goal of the season from LW circle at 7:20 to make it a 4-1 contest. Shreveport couldn't get anything going after scoring the game's first goal. New Mexico added an EN goal from Carroll at 19:15 to close out a 5-1 victory over Shreveport and snap their six-game winning streak.

The Bugs and Wolves will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night to kick-off the 2022 year at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
