Win Streak Halted at Seven as RockHounds Fall 6-3

Midland RockHounds News Release

"Murphy" arrived at Security Bank Ballpark - Murphy's Law, that is - and two streaks departed. On the annual AFLAC Night, in front of nearly six thousand fans (5,976), the Frisco RoughRiders handed the RockHounds their only defeat of an eight-game homestand, riding Juremi Profar's first-inning three-run home run to a 6-3 victory. Frisco snapped a six-game losing streak and ended the RockHounds' seven game win streak in the process. As big as Profar's swing was, it was set up by Jose Cardona's critical single two batters earlier. RockHounds starter Grant Holmes retired the game's first two batters and was ahead in the count, 0-2, with the bases empty and two out. Cardona took the 0-2 delivery the opposite way, extending the inning with a single to right. After a walk to Eric Aguilera, Profar sent a line drive (into a strong wind) just over the railing of the bullpen fence for a three-run home run that would stand as the margin of victory. Cardona's RBI double then helped the Riders extend the lead to 5-0 in the third. Frisco starter Ariel Jurado faced just nine batters in the first three innings before the RockHounds got on the board on RBI doubles from Max Schrock and Viosergy Rosa, cutting the deficit to 5-2. Profar made a tremendous defensive play, bare-handing Argenis Raga's chopper with runners at first and third and making a strong throw to end the inning and deny the 'Hounds a third run in the fourth. Profar later drove in a run with an eighth-inning double for a four RBI night. The 'Hounds scored in the eighth, drawing to within 6-3 on Rosa's second RBI of the game, and had two runners on base with one out. Cody Palmquist then got Yairo Munoz to ground into an around the horn double play to end the threat. Viosergy Rosa completed an outstanding homestand, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Rosa went 14-for-29 (.483), adding six walks. The Hounds' first baseman reached base in 20-of-35 plate appearances in the eight games (.571 OBP). B.J. Boyd drew a pinch-hit walk in the ninth and has reached base in 25 of 27 games (he has hits in 22 of 26 with at least one plate appearance). San Antonio completed a four-game sweep at Corpus Christi (6-4 in 10 innings), handing the Hooks their eighth straight loss. With the win - their ninth in 10 games - the Missions move into a first-place tie with the RockHounds (both at 18-14). The Texas League "catches its breath" with an off-day Wednesday (the only off day over a 39-day stretch). The RockHounds open an eight-game road trip Thursday night in Corpus Christi. Kyle Smith is the scheduled starter for the Hooks with Heath Fillmyer going to the mound for the 'Hounds. The RockHounds and Hooks meet Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:05 p.m. each night and Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The road swing then continues with a four-game series (May 15-18) against the RoughRiders at Frisco. Beginning Thursday, the RockHounds play 14 of their next 18 games on the road (the 'Hounds host the San Antonio Missions May 19-22 before going on a six-game road trip to the North Division).
