Wildcats Open Trade Period by Adding An Impactful Defenceman
MONCTON N.B. - The Moncton Wildcats open day one of trade period by adding an impactful 19-year-old defenceman from Laval QC, Gabriel Sylvestre. In exchange for Sylvestre, Moncton has traded forward Mathieu Boulianne, who was a fifth round pick from this summer's draft, along with a first round pick in 2018, and a second round pick in 2018 (BAT) .
Gabriel has played with the Shawinigan Cataractes for the past three season, and this year was named Captain of the team. He is a true defensive defenceman, and at 6'4" weighing 190 lbs he will be a big presence on the blueline. "We are very excited to bring in a player like Gabriel, our team can really benefit from his four years in the league, his leadership, and his stay at home, do whatever it takes approach to the game on defence," said Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon. "Gabriel fills a need on the back end, and will provide that 20-year-old veteran defenceman we need as we move toward a Memorial Cup Bid."
The Wildcats have also traded Derek Dicaire, a fifth round pick of the Wildcats in 2016 to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for an eighth round pick in 2018. Last season with Moncton he played 59 games, recording 12 points, and this season is with the Valleyfield Braves of the QJAAAHL. "Derek was caught up in the too many players situation in training camp, he clearly has demonstrated that he can play in the league with how well he has played over the past four months in the Quebec Jr AAA league, we are happy for him that he is going to get a second chance with Baie-Comeau," said Roger Shannon.
At this time the Wildcats have also released defenceman Kyle Auger, as well as forwards Riley MacRae and Colton McKenna. "We would like to thank all three players, Kyle, Riley and Colton for the time with us, and wish them all well in their future hockey endeavors."
Finally, the Moncton Wildcats have concluded their trade for Daniil Miromanov. Given that he did not report to camp on time, but did return to play the rest of the season, the Wildcats receive in the trade, a fourth round pick 2018 in exchange for a sixth round pick 2018.
