Wildcats Acquire Connor Richard in Trade, Sending Liam Leonard to the Sea Dogs

August 4, 2020 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Moncton Wildcats News Release

MONCTON NB - During day two of the summer trade period, the Moncton Wildcats have acquired 17-year-old forward Connor Richard from Saint John, in a deal that sends Liam Leonard to the Sea Dogs in return.

Drafted by Saint John in 2018, Richard played last season with the Campbellton Tigers of the MJAHL (Maritime Junior A Hockey League) appearing in 47 games, tallying 16 goals and 21 assists for a 37-point season. The forward was also named to the 2019-2020 MJAHL Rookie-All-Star-Team for his performance.

"Connor had a really good season in the MHL last year," said Director of Hockey Operations, Ritchie Thibeau. "He's a very good skater who is also very competitive and will bring skill. We are looking forward to seeing him battle for a roster spot at training camp."

Born in Quispamsis, Richard played three games last year with the Sea Dogs as a 16-year-old. He will join the Wildcats at camp, which is projected to start at the end of August.

In return for Richard, Moncton will send 20-year-old Liam Leonard south to Saint John. Liam was acquired mid-season by Moncton after playing a year and a half in Bathurst for the Titan.

We wish Liam all the best in the upcoming season, and thank him for his time with the Cats.
