Traverse City, Mich. - A rain delay proved costly for the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, Friday night when they blew a 3-0 lead over the Traverse City Beach Bums following the stoppage, losing 9-3.

Starter Justin Edwards pitched well prior to the rain delay, at one time retiring 13 in a row and allowing no runs through the first five frames. However, he was charged with five runs in the bottom of the sixth after play resumed. He threw six innings and gave up 3 hits and seven walks in the loss.

The game had remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when John Delaney reached first base when the right fielder dropped a foul ball. He advanced to second when Billy O'Conner walked and scored on a bloop single by Denny Duron. They added on to the lead when Wilson Matos doubled on Duron and O'Conner to put Washington ahead 3-0.

The Beach Bums took over the lead for good in the next half inning after the rain delay, scoring five runs on two hits. They score three more in the seventh and one in the eighth to give them the five-run victory.

Traverse City starter Enrique Lechuga gave up three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. He walked five and struck out three in the no decision. Reliever Scott Dunn gave up zero runs on no hits in 3.1 innings in the win.
