Wild Things Fall to ThunderBolts

Washington Wild Things News Release

Crestwood, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell to the Windy City Thunderbolts 12-3 at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

Washington's defense proved no match for Windy City. A combination of walks and errors were more than Washington could overcome.

The Wild Things grabbed a two run lead in the first inning when Doug Thennis doubled to drive in Chris Sidick, and Scott Lawson plated Thennis. But would be Washington's only lead. The Thunderbolts answered immediately with a four run bottom of the first; they added another in the second and in the fourth, giving the Bolts a three run edge.

Washington attempted a comeback in the fifth inning when Tim Battle singled to drive in Lawson, but the Wild Things could do no more. The bottom of the inning, however, proved to be a nightmare for Washington when Windy City came up with six runs, including a bases loaded walk-in- run.

Starter Jhonny Montoya took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits, walking six and striking out three in four innings of work. Jake Ramsey, Davis Bilardello, and Drew Rossi combined for the remaining innings.

The Wild Things and Thunderbolts meet for the rubber match Thursday when first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT. Airtime on WJPA 95.3 FM is 7:55 p.m. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park for their final homestand of the 2011 regular season Friday when they'll host the Joliet Slammers to a three game series.
