KEY WEEKEND MATCH-UPS ¬Â¦
Regina Pats vs Brandon Wheat Kings
Friday, Mar. 4 @ Brandon; Saturday, Mar. 5 @ Regina
Jordan Weal and the Regina Pats take on Mark Stone and the Brandon Wheat Kings for a big home-and-home series between East Division rivals this weekend.
The Pats have dropped two straight, including a 9-3 thumping in Brandon last Saturday, and currently sit five points back of Prince Albert for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Anything less than four points from their weekend home-and-home series with the Wheaties will put a serious damper on the Pats ¬â¢ chances of earning a playoff spot.
The Wheat Kings rattled off a 4-0 shutout win over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Wednesday for their third straight victory, and now sit just one point behind Edmonton for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Two wins from their weekend series versus Regina will keep the Wheat Kings ¬â¢ train heading towards the post-season, and further build their reputation as the team nobody wants to face in the first round of the playoffs.
The weekend home-and-home set will conclude the season series between the teams. The Wheat Kings have dominated the Pats this season, winning five of six previous encounters while outscoring the Pats 30-18 in the process.
Kamloops Blazers @ Chilliwack Bruins
Saturday, Mar. 5
Ryan Howse and the Chilliwack Bruins take on Colin Smith and the Kamloops Blazers for a key B.C. Division match-up on Saturday night in Chilliwack, B.C.
The Bruins claimed a 3-1 win over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday for their second straight win and third victory in four games, and currently sit just three points back of the Blazers for a share of seventh place in the Western Conference. The Bruins hold three games in hand on the Blazers and two in hand on Prince George, who shares seventh place with Kamloops.
The Blazers suffered a 6-2 loss to visiting Kelowna on Wednesday, putting an end to a three-game winning streak and keeping them tied for seventh place in the Western Conference. The Blazers are 5-1-1 over their last seven games on the road.
Saturday ¬â¢s meeting marks the eighth and final encounter of the season between the Bruins and Blazers. The Bruins hold a 4-3 edge in the season series.
The Blazers host the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Bruins are in Kelowna on Friday night prior to Saturday ¬â¢s head-to-head meeting.
