Wheat Kings to Assist McHappy Day
April 30, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - Wednesday, May 2nd is a big day in Canada as it marks the 41st annual McHappy Day at McDonalds.
McHappy Day is a one day event in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities and other local children's charities, including Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation.
On Wednesday, $1 from every Big Mac sandwich, Happy Meal and hot McCafe beverage sold will go towards supporting families of sick children, when they need it most. Every McDonald's restaurant, including those in Brandon, Portage and Neepawa will celebrate in its own unique way, including hosting local celebrities, athletes, media personalities, dignitaries and VIPs to raise donations.
Among the celebrities visiting Brandon's Victoria Avenue location on Wednesday will be members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. Coaches David Anning and Don MacGillivray will be joined by veterans Ty Lewis and Connor Gutenberg and they'll be working the counter, the drive thru and the serving area from 1-2pm.
"McHappy Day is a long standing tradition that was born here in Canada...and it really is at the heart of who we are and what we do," says John Betts, President and CEO of McDonalds Canada. "We strongly believe in community and giving back to the neighbourhoods where we live and work in. Every year, Canadians across the country come together around the important work of the Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms."
Brandon, Neepawa and Portage McDonadls are owned and operated by local businessmen George Sheard. Over $30,000 was raised in western Manitoba in 2017.
"We hope to see you in the restaurants tomorrow supporting RMHC and Westman Dreams for Kids," says Sheard. "The Wheat Kings have been a part of this day for close to twenty years now and it will be great to have them out again in support of this worthwhile charity."
This will mark the 25th McHappy Day to be held at Brandon's restaurants.
In addition to supporting McHappy Day, Canadians can donate online at rmhc.ca
RMHC Canada is the national foundation of support for Canada's fifteen Ronald McDonald Houses, 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles across the country. Collectively, these programs support over 30,000 families each year, providing access to quality health care and enabling family-centered care.
As our founding partner and RMHC's largest donor, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited, their franchises and guests, generously provide over $10 million annually to help support the RHMC network of programs for families with sick children across Canada.
