Wheat Kings Sign Defenceman Owen Harris to a WHL Standard Player Agreement

The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed 2004-born defenceman Owen Harris to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

The 6' 3", 214 lbs. Wawanesa, Manitoba product was drafted by the Wheat Kings in the 3rd Round (#53 Overall) of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft and skated with the Wheat Kings during their 2019-20 rookie camp. He spent last season with the Southwest Cougars U18 AAA and had 4 goals and 14 assists to go along with 96 penalty minutes in 41 games.

"Owen is a high character person that has all the tools to be a reliable defender in our league, he consistently makes the right play at a high execution rate," says Wheat Kings General Manager, Darren Ritchie. "He had a strong 2019-20 season and we like how his overall game has developed since drafting him. We're very happy for Owen and his family to become a part of the Wheat Kings."

Harris is currently playing for the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and has skated in 8 games so far this season.

"Because I've grown up near Brandon, I went to Wheat Kings games all the time with my parents over the years so this is really special", says Harris. "This is a great opportunity and I can't wait to see what the future holds. I'm very I'm thankful for my parents, my friends and all the coaches I've had who have all helped me get to this point."

On January 8th, the Western Hockey League announced that league governors have agreed to a 24-game interdivisional Regular Season schedule for the 2020-21 season. The start date for the season will be determined once final approval has been received from the Health Authorities in each provincial and state jurisdiction.
