Wheat Kings Introduce New Athletic Trainer

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings announced Wednesday that Grant Ammann has been named the new Athletic Trainer for the Western Hockey League club.

A 31-year old native of Aldergrove, B.C., Ammann joins the Wheat Kings after receiving his Advanced Certificate of Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

A former Trainer and Stength and Conditioning Coach of the BCHL's Burnaby Express, Ammann leaves a position with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in order to join the Wheat Kings. In addition to the Whitecaps, he served as Head Equipment Manager and Athletic Therapist for Gold Medal winning Team BC at this year's Canada Winter Games.

"We are excited to have Grant join our organization," says Brandon general manager Kelly McCrimmon. "He has a solid background in the game and will be a good addition to our staff."

Ammann, who spent eight seasons as an on ice official in both the USHL and ECHL, replaces Cam McGhee, who left the Wheat Kings after three seasons to return to the University of Manitoba.

Brandon's new Athletic Trainer arrived in the city last week and began his new position on August 2nd.

The Wheat Kings, who will host their annual Hockey School next week at Westman Place, will kick off Training Camp later this month. Brandon's 2011-12 season opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 22nd in Moose Jaw. The two teams will then face off against one another the following night in Brandon.
