Westerners Dominate North Shore To Register 4-1 Home Record

June 29, 2011 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Danbury Westerners News Release

The Westerners continued their hot hitting at Rogers Park yesterday as they defeated the North Shore Navigators 9-5 to improve their record to 4-1 at home.

Head Coach Jamie Shevchik had his hottest hitters in the lineup and it was apparent early on the offense was ready to produce. The University of Nebraska's Tanner Krietemeier led off the game with a home run over the Sponsor Monster in right field. Andrew Garner of Tulane University followed Krietemeier with his own solo shot later in the inning.

Danbury was leading 3-2 when the fourth inning began, but it would not end that way as the Westerners put up six runs in the frame, five with two outs, to take a commanding 9-2 lead. The big blow came off the bat of Virginia Tech's Tyler Horan. Horan hit a three-run homer to cap the rally and give him his team leading third home run of the season.

All these runs were in support of Sam Eagleson from Johns Hopkins University. Eagleson gave up three runs in six and a third innings to earn the win. The Danbury bullpen was able to hold it from there and secure the victory.

Every Westerner starter in the lineup contributed with at least one run scored or batted in. Garner was named player of the game and was two for three with a home run and a walk. Krietemeier also had a strong game going two for four with a home run and a walk. He also pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.

The Westerners hope to finish June above .500 as they take on the Laconia Muskrats at Rogers Park this Thursday. Danbury then begins a stretch of 14 straight games as the NECBL season really takes off.
