Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Kevin Wehrs scored a power play goal with just 1:20 left in regulation to give the host RoughRiders a 4-3 win over the Chicago Steel Friday night.

The Riders needed Wehrs's late goal to secure the victory despite throwing 58 shots at Chicago goaltender Pat McGann.

After the Steel rallied to even the score at three with a pair of third period goals, Wehrs skated into the Chicago slot and wired a wrist shot past McGann to break the tie.

The Riders led 3-1 entering the third, but Chicago would trim the gap to one when Dan Ryan buried a rebound 4:25 into the period.

With just over four minutes remaining, the Steel got the equalizer in spectacular fashion as Dan Durham walked in on a breakaway and swept the puck between the pads of Cedar Rapids goaltender Richard Bachman (29 saves).

The Riders had the third with a two-goal lead thanks to a pair of second period goals. David Boehm collected his notched power play goal of the night when he lifted a rebound over McGann to break a 1-1 deadlock at 3:25 of the second.

At the 8:05 mark Ian Slater converted Rob Bordson's cross-crease pass to stretch the lead to 3-1.

The teams swapped first period goals. Boehm scored the opener when he banked the puck in off of McGann just 1:59 into the contest. The Steel tied it up at 14:01 on Tyler Murovich's wrister from the right wing circle.
