
Week Six: Game Previews

Entering week six, The Indoor Football League will have six teams in action. The Game of the Week presented by Stadium will feature the Bismarck Bucks (2-2) taking on the Iowa Barnstormers (1-1) on Saturday, May 29, at 7:05 p.m. Kicking off before, the Louisville Xtreme (0-3) will host the Sioux Falls Storm (1-1) at 6:05 p.m. CT and to close out the weekend the Tucson Sugar Skulls (1-0) will travel to match up with the Duke City Gladiators (1-0) on Sunday, May 30, at 3:05 p.m. CT.
SIOUX FALLS STORM AT LOUISVILLE XTREME - SATURDAY, MAY 29, 6:05 P.M. CT
The Storm look to gain momentum after moving to 1-1 after defeating the Arizona Rattlers, 50-46, on May 22nd. In that game, quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed 15-of-23 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown along with 37 rushing yards. Running back Nate Chavious had 33 rushing yards. Wide receivers JoJo Gause had 96 reception yards and three touchdowns, Brandon Sheperd had 27 reception yards and one touchdown, Damian Ford had eight reception yards and one touchdown along with 45 rushing yards and Alonzo Moore had 30 reception yards.
Linebacker Marquis Hendrix led the Thunder Defense with 10 total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Defensive linemen Ch'aim Smith had 1.5 tackles for loss and Dequan Harvin had one tackle for loss. Defensive backs Brandon Roe had two interceptions while Solomon St. Pierre and Roosevelt Lawrence each had one pass break-up.
The Xtreme look to bounce back after a hard-fought battle against the Frisco Fighters on May 22, the Xtreme lost, 26-34. In that game, quarterback Oliver Dalton completed 14 passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for five yards and one touchdown. Wide receivers Edgar Poe had 85 reception yards with one touchdown and Todd Athey had 49 reception yards and two touchdowns The Xtreme defense had 33 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six sacks, eight pass breakups and two blocks.
BISMARCK BUCKS AT IOWA BARNSTORMERS - SATURDAY, MAY 29, 7:05 P.M. CT
The Barnstormers head into the game after a hard-fought loss in overtime against the Duke City Gladiators, 55-63, last weekend. The Iowa offense was heavily led by IFL 2019 MVP and IFL Player of Week Four, quarterback Daquan Neal.
Neal ended the night by scoring four out of eight touchdowns for the Barnstormers. On the other side of the team, Barnstormers defensive lineman, Kenton Bartlett, kept Iowa alive by blocking a field goal attempt by the Gladiators with 2 seconds left in the game to send the game into overtime.
The Bismarck Bucks earned their third win of the season over Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-2) last week. The Bucks came out to a fast start by scoring 34 of their 61 points in the first half of the game.
Bismarck did not let off the gas and continued their scoring run to ultimately put them over the Wranglers, 61-39.
This will be the first of three matchups between these teams this season. The game features two of the strongest offenses in the IFL. Both teams are top five in the league for scoring and rushing yards.
TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS AT DUKE CITY GLDIATORS - SUNDAY, MAY 30, 3:05 P.M. CT
The Tucson Sugar Skulls will travel to face the Duke City Gladiators in search of their first win of the 2021 season. The matchup will be Tucson's first-ever against Duke City.
Tucson's Demry Croft got the start at quarterback in the Sugar Skulls' season opener against the Green Bay Blizzard and delivered two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in his first IFL game. The rookie quarterback also threw for 160 yards and rushed for 52 yards on the day.
The Sugar Skulls defense is fifth in the league in points allowed per game, allowing 42 points in their last game against the Blizzard. Overall, they held the Green Bay offense to 152 yards total on the day, which puts them at third in the league in yards allowed per game.
The Duke City Gladiators won their first IFL game against the Iowa Barnstormer in a 63-55 shootout that ended in overtime. Tucson's defense will look to slow down quarterback Nate Davis, who threw for 228 yards and seven touchdowns in Duke City's season opener. Davis leads the IFL in passing yards per game, completion percentage and quarterback efficiency. Through one game, Davis' quarterback efficiency is over 50 points better than the next best quarterback in the IFL.
