Milwaukee Wave News Release

For a second year in a row, the Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave were defeated by the rival Baltimore Blast in the Major Arena Soccer League Eastern Conference Championship game Friday night.

Final score, Milwaukee Wave 6, Baltimore Blast 10.

"It's a disappointing loss," said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "We went in feeling confident after a great week of preparation but unfortunately we gave up some easy goals, missed some assignments and Baltimore took advantage."

The Blast came out of the gates swinging scoring their first goal under 90 seconds. Baltimore's second goal came minutes later, giving them a 2-0 lead early.

It wasn't until about 10 minutes into the first quarter when Wave midfielder #77 Marcio Letie fed a great pass to #14 Daniel Mattos for Milwaukee's first goal of the game. 12 seconds later, Baltimore forward #28, Vinny Dantas quickly answered back.

"We wanted to stay in the game but didn't have the best first half after giving up some easy goals," said Oliviero. "In the second half we reorganized, stayed positive and worked our way to 7-6 but they (Baltimore) found a way and fed off of our mistakes. That's why they're the two-time defending champions."

The Baltimore Blast will now move onto the MASL Ron Newman Cup Championship Game to try to three-peat against either the MASL Western Conference San Diego Sockers or Monterey Flash. That game happens Sunday at 5:05pm CT from Arena Monterrey.

"We did a lot of great things this season," said Oliviero. "The players were fantastic, their attitudes were excellent, the fans were amazing, we won the first 12 games of the season and we clinched the Central Division. We're close, very close and we have a great core group of players that want to become better, but we just need to take that next step. I'm looking forward to next season and being in that championship game."
