WARREN SCHAEFFER PROMOTED TO DOUBLE-A HARTFORD
TOURISTS MANAGER SPENT THREE SEASONS IN ASHEVILLE
ASHEVILLE - Earlier today the Hartford Yard Goats, the double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, introduced Warren Schaeffer as their manager for the 2018 baseball season. Schaeffer, who turns 33 in January, spent the last three years managing the Asheville Tourists.
During the course of Schaeffer's stint in Asheville, the Vandergrift, PA native led the Tourists to a 206-209 regular season record. In 2015, Schaeffer managed the Tourists to the South Atlantic League's Southern division pennant and a runner-up overall finish.
The Tourists held the South Atlantic League's top team batting average twice in Schaeffer's three years at the helm. Asheville also paced the league in stolen bases in two of the three seasons of Schaeffer's tenure.
"We knew this day would come eventually," said Tourists president Brian DeWine. "Over the last three years we have watched Tourists teams, led by our manager, compete and improve on a daily basis. Warren will forever be a part of the Asheville Tourists family, both as a player and as a manager."
Schaeffer's 206 wins rank seventh on the all-time Asheville managerial wins list. The Tourists manager for the 2018 campaign will be announced in the near future.
