 Houston Roughnecks

Walker, Phillips Show No Signs of Stopping

Houston Roughnecks News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The P.J. Walker & Cam Phillips Show was on display Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.

The QB connected with his go-to WR eight times for 194 yards and three TDs as the Houston Roughnecks (3-0) stayed perfect on the XFL season with a 34-27 victory over the winless Vipers (0-3).

Teams in the XFL are well aware of the presence of Phillips, but, so far, he's been unstoppable. Certainly, the receiver was a focus in the Vipers' preparation for the Roughnecks this week. The Tampa Bay defense was first overall coming into the game, allowing only 264 total yards passing.

However, it didn't have an answer for Phillips and his play-making ability, as Walker threw for 306 yards.

The incredible play of Walker has drawn comparisons to the NFL's Patrick Mahomes. If Walker is the Mahomes of the XFL, Phillips is the Michael Thomas.

The two have only been playing together for a short time, but in watching the chemistry they have, you would think it's been seasons.

Walker finds Phillips for 84-yard touchdown

"We talk mid-drive, and we talk on the sidelines," Walker said. "He gives me his input on what he sees from the secondary, and it helps.

"I tell him, 'If you're there, I'll find you.'"

And it shows.

Walker has thrown for a total of 748 yards, 324 of which have been to Phillips, and they've connected for seven scores.

"P.J. knows if he gets the ball around (Cam), he's going to make some catches," said Roughnecks coach June Jones.

"Cam has really, really impressed me ever since he got here," Jones added. "He's bought into what we're doing and what we're teaching him."

Saturday's stat lines for Walker and Phillips are pro career highs.

Houston will make the short trip north to Dallas to take on the Renegades (March 1, 4 p.m. ET, FS1) in Week 4 while the Vipers host the DC Defenders (March 1, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
