New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Marcus Walden delivered his longest outing since reaching the Double-A level on Saturday afternoon, but Binghamton's Rafael Montero was just a little bit better in a 3-0 B-Mets' victory. Walden (L; 0-3) allowed just one run over 6.2 innings as the Fisher Cats (8-9) were shut out for the first time this year, and fell to 1-2 on their current seven-game homestand.
Walden and Montero matched zeroes over the first four innings, highlighted by Walden inducing three inning-ending double plays. Montero allowed just three hits to that point, stranding all three runners.
In the fifth, Binghamton found the only run they'd score against Walden. With two outs, Darrell Ceciliani's single to left plated Wilfredo Tovar for a 1-0 lead.
Walden would leave the game after a two-out double in the seventh that was ultimately stranded. The righty scattered nine hits, but allowed just one run. He recorded 12 of his 20 outs on the ground, recording one strikeout and a walk.
Montero (3-1) tossed six scoreless on four hits and 6 strikeouts. The Fisher Cats brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but stranded two to end the game.
The teams now play the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Sunday's game will feature a pre-game parade to recognize students who completed the Reading Challenge presented by the Community College System of New Hampshire. After the game, all kids can run the bases courtesy of the Buyers Beware Program. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com, calling 603-641-2005, or stopping by the Fisher Cats Ticket Office at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The pitching match-up for the contest features RHP Deck McGuire (1-1. 3.06) against Binghamton RHP Logan Verrett (2-0, 2.75). Fans can listen to the game beginning at 1:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Chris Shuker on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
