Vince Velasquez, Tom McCarthy and Phillie Phanatic Added to Caravan

(Allentown, Pa) - Current Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez, long-time Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy and the Phillie Phanatic will join Phillies manager Joe Girardi and outfielder Roman Quinn for the Phillies Caravan on Thursday, January 23 at the Wind Creek Event Center. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Velasquez will be entering his fifth season with the Philadelphia Phillies. He's appeared in 103 games and has made 92 career starts for the Phillies. Last season, he spent time in the starting rotation and the bullpen, appearing in 33 games and making 23 starts. He struck out 130 batters in 117 1/3 innings. The Montclair, California native was acquired by the Phillies in 2015 from the Houston Astros. The right-hander has appeared in one career-game with the IronPigs - a rehab appearance during the 2017 season.

McCarthy is entering his 13th season as a broadcaster for the Phillies. The long-time broadcaster first joined the Phillies in 2001 as the host of the pre- and post-game radio shows, while also doing play-by-play. He served in this position until 2006, when he joined the New York Mets as a radio broadcaster for one season before returning to the Phillies in November of 2007. McCarthy has done extensive broadcasting for professional and collegiate sports in his career. He currently does NFL games and NCAA Basketball games for CBS and Westwood One Radio.

The Phillie Phanatic has been a fixture with the Philadelphia Phillies since his debut on April 25, 1978 at Veterans Stadium. The Phanatic has made multiple visits to Coca-Cola Park over the years and has become a regular attendee at the Phillies Caravan. The Phanatic was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2005.
