Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Logan Stein was sharp during a pair of appearances for the Waterloo Black Hawks; the two victories made him the United States Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Stein was pressed into service 8:31 into the first period on Thursday night versus the Omaha Lancers. He faced a flurry of shots during the remainder of the first period, stopping ten Omaha chances to send Waterloo to intermission ahead 1-0. For the night, he parried 27 of 28 Lancer tries for his tenth victory of the season. The Hawks celebrated a 5-1 win.

Back in the crease for the start Saturday against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Stein kept the game close until the Black Hawks broke out for three goals in the last seven minutes of regulation. The 3-1 victory yielded Waterloo's longest winning streak in 2018/19. Stein made 19 saves.

For the weekend, the first-year netminder stopped 95.8 percent of the shots he faced.

This season, Stein is 11-3-1 in 17 games. Last week's performances pushed his goals-against average down to 2.76, which ranks fifth in the USHL.

Monday's recognition marks the first time Stein has been named USHL Goaltender of the Week. The honor comes after Jared Moe was the award winner last Monday.

This weekend, Stein and the Hawks finish up a five-game homestand. Waterloo host the Fargo Force Friday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks Saturday during John Deere Weekend. Tickets are discounted for Deere workers and their families, and after Saturday's game, the Hawks' 2019 John Deere jerseys will be auctioned, benefitting the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Cedar Valley.
