USBL Finals: Legend win championship, Boyette named MVP

SALINA, KS - (June 26, 2005) The 2005 The United States Basketball League (USBL) Post-Season Championship concluded today with the Dodge City Legend walking away the victor. The Legend took three games in three days to win their 3rd USBL Championship. Jermaine Boyette's 25 point performance capped off a phenomenal tournament that earned him MVP honors.

Game 7 - Dodge City 97 Kansas 84 F

Jermaine Boyette scored 25 points and Dodge City committed only 11 turnovers, as the Legend beat the Kansas Cagerz 97-84 in the USBL championship game.

Kansas took the game's first lead seven seconds in to the contest, and Dodge City would grab its first lead of the game at the 11:00 mark in the first.

Kansas had its biggest lead of the game with 6:30 to go in the first, when the Cagerz led 15-10.

In all, seven lead changes dotted the first quarter, but Dodge City finished the final three minutes of the first period on an 8-2 run, taking a seven-point, 28-21 advantage into the second quarter.

Dodge City extended its lead to ten with 10:00 to play in the second quarter, but Kansas was able to cut the lead to four with 7:30 to play in the half.

With Kansas in striking distance, Dodge City went on a four-minute 14-6 run, and closed the half by outscoring the Cagerz 17-13 to take a 54-46 lead into the halftime locker room.

Dodge City led through the entire third quarter. Kansas cut the Legend lead to three with 9:45 to go and got within two at the 3:25 mark, but Dodge City outscored the Cagerz 7-2 in the last two minutes of the third frame to take a 72-67 lead into the fourth.

Kansas opened the fourth with a pair of buckets, cutting the Dodge City lead to one with 11:10 to play, and Kansas grabbed its first lead since the first quarter with 10:20 to go in the game.

The lead changed three more times, and Dodge City would take the lead for the final time with 7:45 to play. Kansas got within three with 5:30 to go, but Dodge City outscored the Cagerz 19-9 from that point to beat Kansas 97-84.

Boyette's 25 points lead all scorers, and the tournament MVP was joined in double digits by five other Dodge City players. Jason Miller led Kansas in the scoring column with 22, while Jonathon Levy added 15 in the loss.

Kansas outrebounded Dodge City 49-38, but the Legend committed just 11 turnovers to the Cagerz 19.
