Two Sharks Earn NAL Player of the Week Awards

April 6, 2017 - National Arena League (NAL) - Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The National Arena League announced on Wednesday that Sharks defensive back Marvin Ross earned Defensive Player of the Week and kicker Nick Belcher earned Special Teams Player of the Week in their Week 3 performances against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.

Marvin Ross, beginning his first season with Jacksonville, has stood out among the Sharks defense. So far, he has totaled five interceptions in just three games, not including his two interceptions in the preseason game. Against Lehigh Valley, Ross caught two interceptions, both in the end zone to prevent Lehigh Valley from scoring and stopping an anticipated come back. One of these interceptions took place in the fourth quarter during one of the Steelhawks final drives. "It's really not about how you start but how you finish and week 3 was a good example of that for me, said Marvin Ross who now is second in the league in interceptions. (Jimmy Legree, Eddie Davis III, 6) I put in a lot time in film study and really just focuse my attention on my technique."

Nick Belcher is currently the hottest kicker in the NAL, leading the league in points scored (30). He is also currently leading the league with with 19 out of 21 attempts in PATs. Belcher stood out on special teams last game not only for his big 38 yard field goal at the end of the first half, but also for his six extra points made. This is Belcher's first year with the Sharks after kicking for coach Stoute with Cedar Rapids of the IFL in 2016.
