Tuesday Tribute: Longfellow Elementary School

May 5, 2020 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Minot Minotauros News Release

Each Tuesday, the Minot Minotauros are going to recognize some of our local partners and other local companies as they look to lend a helping hand during the COVD-19 crisis. Today, the Tauros are recognizing Longfellow Elementary School. If you know of a business or organization that we should spotlight, please email the Tauros at [email protected]

When Minot Public Schools had to close their doors due to the spread of the Coronavirus, a plan to feed the kids breakfast and lunch was put into place. Brenda Lokken, the Kitchen Manager at Longfellow Elementary, says that Longfellow is supplying breakfasts and lunches to students from Longfellow, Bel Air, and Lewis & Clark Elementary Schools.

The students are given a lunch for that day and a breakfast for the next morning. The lunches vary from day to day, but consist of a protein, fruit, veggie, and milk. For breakfast, the kids are given either a cereal bar or a container of cereal. "We give away around 700 bags a day," says Lokken.

Lokken added that Minot Public Schools plans to continue to give away lunches until June 30th, but she is hoping that they continue this program throughout the summers. Updates about the locations and dates of the lunches can be found on the Minot Public Schools website or on the rolling billboard outside of Longfellow Elementary and other local elementary schools.
