Arkansas Travelers News Release

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Wichita, KS - Freddy Sandoval (7) hit a three-run homer in the tenth inning sending the Arkansas Travelers (11-14, 43-52) to a 9-6 victory over the Wichita Wranglers (10-15, 35-60). Wichita came back from a 6-1 deficit after the fifth inning to force extras. Wranglers LF Jorge Padilla capped a four-run rally in the seventh with a three-run homer (3) to tie the game. Arkansas LF Coby Smith finished 3-for-3 with a three-run homer (2), a walk, two runs and a stolen base helping the Travs raise their record on the current road trip to 4-3. RHP Von Stertzbach (1-0) pitched two shutout innings for the victory. Wichita RHP Tim Bausher (1-3) went 3.1 innings and allowed Sandoval's home run to suffer the loss. RHP Nick Green got a no-decision although he left with a 6-2 lead after going six innings and allowing two runs on six hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

The Wranglers took advantage of a leadoff walk to score in the first inning. Green put Adam Greenberg on base to begin the first inning and he stole second base. With two outs, Padilla hit a flare past first base for an RBI single giving the Wranglers the lead.

The Travs stranded a runner in each of the first two innings, but delivered in the third inning. Smith hit a leadoff single, and Rosa walked Adam Morrissey with one out. Rodriguez rapped a two-out double to left-center field bringing in two runs for a 2-1 Travs lead.

Rosa lost command in the third inning and walked Tim Duff and Cody Fuller bringing out Wichita pitching coach Larry Carter to the mound. After the meeting, Smith jumped on Rosa's first pitch and sent it sailing over the left field wall for a three-run shot and a 5-1 Travs lead.

The Travs tacked on another run in the fifth inning without a base hit. Rosa retired just one batter and was pulled after issuing walks to Sandoval and Matt Pali putting runners at first and second bases. LHP Mike Connolly came from the Wichita bullpen and faced Corey Myers first. After the 2-1 pitch, Wichita C Damaso Espino threw to first base picking off Pali. While Pali was rundown towards second base by Mike Stodolka, Sandoval streaked around third base and scored. Pali was able to reach third base when Stodolka's late flip was dropped by 2B Mike Gaffney.

Leading 6-1, Green tossed a 1-2-3 fifth inning and returned for the sixth. Stodolka singled with one out and Green walked Padilla. Kila Kaaihue followed with a chopper to first base and Pali fired to second base forcing Stodolka. Green covered first base on the relay, but missed the bag with his foot allowing the inning to continue. Jeff Nettles got the Wranglers within four runs with a single to right field.

Arkansas sent RHP Chris Hunter out for the seventh inning and he recorded two quick outs before the next five batters reached base. Greenberg began the rally with an infield single then Hunter walked two batters to load the bases. With Padilla batting, a pitch from Hunter got passed C Tim Duff for a passed ball and Greenberg scored. Padilla followed with a blast to left field bringing home three runs tying the game, at 6-6.

The Wranglers threatened in the ninth inning advancing the winning run to second base on two walks from Stertzbach. Duff picked Stodolka off second base to douse the threat.

Bausher had come on to pitch in the seventh inning and held the Travs at bat until the tenth. Michael Collins, batting in Smith's spot in the order, hit a one-out single to center field. Brad Coon followed with a line drive single to center and Morrissey bounced slowly to short stop moving the runners up. Sandoval then ripped into an 0-1 pitch and shot it to straight-away centerfield. The ball hit the top of the fence and clipped the batter's eye before bouncing back to the field for a home run.

Time of game was 3:23 and the paid attendance was 955
