Travs Erupt Late to Even Series

July 7, 2017 - Texas League (TL) - San Antonio Missions News Release

Arkansas did all of its damage between the sixth and seventh innings in its 5-2 win over San Antonio Thursday night at Wolff Stadium.

The first half of Thursday night's contest featured a tremendous pitchers duel between San Antonio's Kyle Lloyd and Arkansas' Dylan Unsworth . The right-handers rolled through the early innings, combining to allow just three hits over the first four and a half frames.

In the bottom of the fifth, San Antonio finally broke through as Stephen McGee followed Nick Torres ' two-out ground rule double with a single to right center.

However, Lloyd was not able to hold the lead for long. The Travs answered in the top of the sixth with their first three tallies, highlighted by a two-run blast to right by designated hitter Dario Pizzano .

Arkansas broke the game open on Lloyd (7-5) in the seventh as they upped the lead to 5-1 on RBI singles by former Mission Nelson Ward and shortstop Joey Wong .

The Missions flirted with a comeback in the eighth, trimming the deficit to 5-2 on a Ty France RBI single to right that ended the night for Unsworth (7-6). With runners on first and third and just one out, the Missions threatened to do much more. Unfortunately, for San Antonio, Unsworth's replacement, Zac Curtis, squashed the rally by retiring each of the next two batters.

Curtis came back on for the ninth to wrap up the Travs victory, while notching his ninth save. But it was not without drama. The lefty loaded the bases with two outs for Franmil Reyes, who nearly sent the Missions away with an improbable walk-off grand slam victory. However, the Reyes blast was caught just shy of the wall in center by Ian Miller .

San Antonio (9-5, 50-34) wraps up its three-game series with Arkansas (6-8, 38-46) Friday at 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans will go home with a FREE Missions Military Camo Cap courtesy of IPAC Nissan. Right-hander Brett Kennedy (7-4, 3.75) will get the ball for the Missions in the series finale, while the Travs counter with southpaw Anthony Misiewicz (0-0, 3.00).
