Training Camp Recap: Day 2

August 29, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The second day of the 2013 Oshawa Generals Training Camp kicked off today as the players took to the ice. After a successful day of medicals, fitness testing and headshots, the potential Generals are ready to get down to the hockey. The camp is split into three teams who will play each other in three scrimmages. Each game features two periods that are 25 minutes each making the early endurance test a big one for each of the players.

Scrimmage 1 - Team Red vs Team White

Though the first goal wouldn't come for until the end of the period, the game was fast paced and hard hitting right from the start. Both teams were eager to make an impact and the intensity of the match was high. Jacob Busch, the Generals' 7th round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, drew first blood when he scored in the last minute of the first period, putting Team White up 1-0.

The second period was an intense battle but it was White that got on the board next, taking an important 2 goal lead, and it was Jacob Busch again who got the marker near the halfway point of the second period. Team Red fought hard to rally though and scored a goal of their own before the period ended. With goalie Jeremy Brodeur, the Generals' 8th round pick in 2013, on the bench Team Red used an extra attacker. Mitchell Vande Sompel, the first round pick in 2013, netted one from a distance to cut the lead in half for a final score of 2-1.
