Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Rayz made some major moves involving six players Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced Wednesday afternoon. The Rayz made a trade, had a call up from their American Hockey League affiliate, and made moves off of the injured reserve list as transactions continue to fly approaching the February 2nd CHL trade deadline.
The Rayz acquire forward Aaron Millar from the Tulsa Oilers in exchange rookie forward Nick Udovicic. They resigned defenseman Byron Pool, who was waived by the team just two weeks ago. They activated veteran forward Cosmo Dupaul off the injured reserved list and placed Jim Leger on the fourteen day IR. The Rayz also had defenseman Chad Starling recalled by the Houston Aeros of the AHL.
Millar, 25, is in his fourth year of professional hockey. The 5'10", 175lb. native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta had appeared in all 40 games for Tulsa this season prior to the trade. He has six goals and 21 points in that time. This was his third year with Tulsa, after spending his rookie season with the San Angelo Outlaws of the WPHL. That season, Millar had a career high 18 goals and 47 points. Prior to turning pro, he spent five seasons playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League. Millar will join the Rayz for his first game with the team on Thursday night.
Pool, 28, returns to the Rayz lineup after being waived two weeks ago by the team when six new players arrived with new Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. Pool, who missed most of the first half of the year due to injury, has 13 penalty minutes in ten games.
Starling, 23, was assigned to Corpus Christi at the beginning of the year by the Houston Aeros â the Rayz AHL affiliate. Starling appeared in 35 games this season, and had 11 points and 76 penalty minutes. Starling is a former 4th round pick of the St. Louis Blues of the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The Rayz return home Thursday night after three straight road games as the Austin Ice Bats come to town. The Rayz are just nine games out of the playoffs and begin a home and home with Austin that could get them within three points of their Southeast Division rival.
