Daytona Tortugas News Release

Daytona Beach, FL - Eight of nine starters recorded a hit, as the Daytona Tortugas bludgeoned the Fire Frogs, 10-1, Friday night at Radiology Associates Field for their first win.

The Tortugas got the scoring started immediately, in the bottom of the first. With Gonzalez at the plate, Taylor Trammell was picked off of first, but was able to get caught in a run down long enough to allow TJ Friedl to score from third.

Florida tied the game in the next half inning, when Lucas Herbert hit a solo home run off of Tortugas starter LHP Scott Moss. It was the only run Daytona would allow all night.

Daytona retook the lead in the bottom of the second. Tyler Stephenson and Mitch Nay led off the inning with base hits, before Malik Collymore drove both in with a two-out, two-run single to take a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth, after Bladimir Matos struck out the first two hitters, Trammell reached base with a single off the top of the wall in right field. On the very next pitch from Matos, Luis Gonzalez cleared the left field wall for a two-run home run, giving Daytona a 5-1 lead.

Daytona added two more in the sixth with a pair of one out singles. The first by Brantley Bell, driving in Mitch Nay, and the second on a TJ Friedl single, scoring Bell. The Tortugas added another in the seventh, when Fire Frogs right fielder Justin Ellison misplayed a Nay single in right, allowing Stephenson to score from first.

The Tortugas rounded out the scoring in the eighth, when Dilson Herrera hit an RBI double to make it 9-1. Herrera would come around to score after a Taylor Trammell single to make it 10-1.

Moss (1-0) earned the Tortugas first win of 2018. He did so by pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, just one earned run, while striking out nine in front of his hometown fans.

LHP Tucker Davidson (0-1) was handed the loss for the Fire Frogs. He threw 3 1/3 innings, gave up four hits, three runs (two earned), walked two and struck out four.

The series heads to Kissimmee for the remaining two games of this opening four game series. RHP Ryan Olson gets the ball for the Tortugas, against RHP Bryse Wilson for Florida. Wilson is rated as the 12th best prospect in the Braves organization.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM, with coverage beginning at 3:45 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
