August 23, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC issued the following update on the status of supporter privileges following the Ottawa Police Department's investigation into the incident which occurred during the Canadian Championship Semifinal on July 18.
On July 18, 2018, an incident occurred during a Toronto FC road match held at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa involving Toronto FC fans. The incident consisted of a coordinated group of fans discharging prohibited pyrotechnic devices in the stands which created a significant risk to the safety of fans, venue staff and players; damaged the stadium property; and disrupted the match. Following the incident Toronto FC received an email from the Toronto FC supporter Group Inebriatti admitting that members of Inebriatti were responsible for having smuggled the pyrotechnic devices involved in the Incident into the stadium in violation of MLS and Toronto FC codes of conduct.
During the subsequent Ottawa Police and Toronto FC investigations of the events surrounding the Incident, the involvement of Inebriatti members was confirmed. As a result, and based on a series of prior code of conduct violations associated with this particular supporter group, Toronto FC has imposed the following sanctions, effective immediately:
(i) Immediate and permanent termination of Inebriatti's status as an official supporter group and all associated supporter group privileges;
(ii) Termination and refund of all seat accounts associated with Inebriatti; and
(iii) Inebriatti members are prohibited from entering the south end supporters section of BMO Field until they have successfully completed the online MLS Fan Conduct Education Class at their own expense.
Several individuals have received bans from BMO Field and MLSE owned properties indefinitely, based on their level of involvement in the incident. This ban includes members of Inebriatti and others who are not affiliated with Inebriatti. It is Toronto FC's highest priority to promote responsible fan behaviour in order to ensure that all fans have a safe and enjoyable game day experience.
