December 15, 2020 - United Soccer League One (USL1) - South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release

STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC has picked up midfielder Luca Mayr-Fältén's one-year club option ahead of its 2021 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval. After a successful rookie professional year, the Austrian midfielder will represent the blue and magenta for a third season having played for Tormenta FC 2 in 2019.

Mayr-Fältén started 15 out of 16 matches in 2020, scoring three goals and recording one assist. The midfielder was near the top of USL League One for shots with 30 and 13 on target. Defensively, Mayr-Fältén made eight clearances, four blocks and 17 tackles.

"We're delighted to have Luca back playing for Tormenta in 2021," TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. "Midfielders who have an eye for goals are hard to find, and Luca is always hunting for opportunities to create and score.

"With a revamp of attacking options being recruited for the upcoming season, the staff are intrigued to see how Luca can develop into a more complete and balanced player. Having worked with him in USL League Two play and now his first pro season, I'm confident that he will make strides this season, and he's a player our fans will continue to get excited about."

In his third week of professional play, Mayr-Fältén appeared on the USL League One Team of the Week after assisting a goal that helped Tormenta FC defeat Orlando City B 2-0. The midfielder also made a splash in week six after scoring a late-match game-winner from 30 yards out against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on its home turf.

Before signing with the first team, Mayr-Fältén notched eight goals and five assists for Tormenta FC 2 in 2019, leading the team to both Deep South Division and Southern Conference titles.

Collegiately, the Austrian midfielder scored 15 goals and notched 15 assists with 173 shots total for the University of South Carolina. He also has elite experience playing for the U16 and U18 Austrian National Teams and SV Reid in the Austrian Football Bundesliga.

"I'm excited to play here for Tormenta for another year," Mayr-Fältén said. "I feel like we have unfinished business, and I'm looking forward to another great year. We all came here to win a championship. I also want to thank the owners, the coaches and everyone associated with the club for trusting me another year."

Mayr-Fältén joins Pablo Jara, Craig McCall, Marco Micaletto, Stefan Mueller, Sergi Nus, Abuchi Obinwa and Curtis Thorn on Tormenta FC's 2021 League One roster. Tormenta FC fans can guarantee their presence at every home match in Erk Russell Park with Season tickets that are on sale now with payment plan options and an array of perks like a team t-shirt and a season parking pass.
