Tormenta FC to Face Tampa Bay Rowdies this Saturday

Tormenta FC will face USL Championship team, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, in a preseason match this Saturday, February 18 at 5:00 pm at Erk Russell Park. This is fan's first opportunity to watch the squad together in action.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies will make Statesboro their preseason home for four days. The USL Championship team will train at the Tormenta FC training grounds and will also play a preseason game against the Georgia Southern University men's soccer team.

"We are excited to host one of the country's oldest professional soccer franchises," USL League One head coach John Miglarese said. "Having them come to Statesboro is a great opportunity for both clubs to share ideas and prepare for the upcoming season through our friendly matches. This will be a beneficial time for all us."

"Tormenta FC is a great organization with a nice set-up in Statesboro, so we're excited to bring our team there this week," Rowdies head coach Niell Collins said. "It will be a good opportunity for our players to get out of their normal environment and bond together as a family."

"We appreciate Tormenta FC's hospitality, and we're looking forward to a great match on Saturday," Collins said.

After playing Tampa Bay, Tormenta FC will continue its preseason lineup at home against college teams Lander University, University of South Carolina, Mercer University and Georgia Southern University a second time. The club then concludes its preseason away on March 22 against USL Championship team Charleston Battery.

Tormenta FC will then open the 2019 USL League One season at home on March 29 at 7 PM against Greenville Triumph SC.

South Georgia Tormenta FC is a professional soccer franchise in Statesboro, Georgia that was founded in 2015. The club established itself as one of the premier USL League Two teams (formerly known as PDL) across the United States before joining USL League One as the founding member of the league. The club is constructing a new state-of-the-art 5,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Statesboro. Planned to be built next to The Clubhouse on Old Register Road, the new venue will provide an exciting and authentic professional soccer experience for fans and players alike.
