Tormenta FC, Optim Health System Host EMT Collaboration
STATESBORO, Ga. - Tormenta FC and Optim Health System partnered with local EMS on Thursday morning to rehearse emergency procedures in preparation for the 2021 USL League One and Two seasons. Led by Rachel Ploor, the club's Head Athletic Trainer (AT) and Education Coordinator, this community session with the Bulloch County and Liberty County EMS and Liberty County AT will continue to be an annual event as the groups collaborate to ensure the best possible emergency responses for players.
"Time is of the essence, and the difference in minutes can be the difference between surviving or not surviving, so we practice this annually to make sure that we have the best chance of having a positive outcome every time," Ploor said. "We plan these possible emergency scenarios and go through them all before the season starts, so we can get patients the care that they need as fast as possible and as efficiently as possible with no delays or differences in protocols."
At the community training session, Optim athletic trainers and EMS rehearsed various emergency training and game day procedures like spine boarding, heat illness, IV fluids, transport and more.
Optim Health System recently claimed the naming rights for the playing field at Tormenta FC's new stadium and has a large network of highly-skilled physicians, specialty-focused facilities, experienced nurses and other personnel to help patients in both larger metropolitan and rural areas of our region.
Tentatively set to kick off by May 8, Tormenta FC's 2021 League One season is coming fast with players arriving in Statesboro this week for preseason. The roster continues to come together with a strong core of 12 Tormenta FC first and second-team returners and new signees Clayton Adams, Azaad Liadi and Luis Rodriguez. With another new signing and a club returner being announced soon, fans should download the Tormenta FC app to be the first to know about news and ticket deals.
