Tony Jones Returns to Barnstormers
DES MOINES "" The Iowa Barnstormers have re-signed defensive lineman Tony Jones to the 2021 roster, Head Coach Ameer Ismail announced today.
Jones (6-2, 235, Texas Tech University) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Jones began his career at Butler Community College before transferring to Texas Tech University. In two seasons with the Red Raiders Jones appeared in 24 games, at both linebacker and defensive lineman, where he collected 77 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception, and three fumble recoveries.
Following his collegiate career, Jones received an invitation to the Los Angeles Rams minicamp.
Jones originally signed on to the Iowa Barnstormers roster ahead of the 2020 season, impressing the coaching staff at defensive line and linebacker during the team's 2-week Training Camp. Jones landed a spot on the final 25-man roster and was gearing up for the Barnstormers' first game when news of the season's uncertain future broke.
"Training Camp prepared me for the season and I was itching ready to get on the field and play," said Jones. "I am excited about getting back on the field and showing people what I can do."
With the 2020 season's cancelation due to Covid-19, Jones headed back home to Florida to adjust to quarantine and the new normal. Jones looks forward to the return of football.
"I have been trianing at D1 in Orlando, Florida so I'm anxious to get back with everyone and compete."
Jones will return to Des Moines for the Barnstormers 2021 Training Camp in the spring.
