Tomahawks Drop 4-1 Contest to Philadelphia

January 27, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

Pittston, PA - In an important East Division match-up, the Johnstown Tomahawks were able to hang on and beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 2-1 at the Revolution Ice Centre on Friday, Jan. 26.

The opening period saw the Knights control most of the play. They almost had the opening goal, but the referees deemed that the net was off its moorings and the goal was disallowed.

They then looked to try and score on the power play, but the Tomahawks penalty killers had other plans.

Pavel Kharin (assisted by Joe Kile) scored his fourth of the season-a shorthanded goal-to put Johnstown up 1-0. Not long after, Roman Kraemer (assisted by Andy Nedeljkovic) tallied his thirteenth goal of the season to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Tomahawks went into the first intermission with the two-goal lead. They spent the entire second period keeping the Knights off the board, with Kade Phipps making great saves and his teammates spending more time in the offensive zone.

The third period was when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton threw everything they had at Johnstown. They pulled their goalie with two minutes remaining in regulation and the move paid off. Jack Olmstead was able to score with 29.9 seconds left in the game.

But the Tomahawks were able to survive the onslaught and earn the hard-fought victory.
