Tomahawks Drop 4-1 Contest to Philadelphia

January 22, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

Johnstown, Pa - The Johnstown Tomahawks split the weekend as the Philadelphia Rebels beat the Tomahawks on Saturday night 4-1.

In the first period, the Tomahawks struck first. After a great pass from Joey Baez, while on his knees, Carson Briere scored his sixth goal of the season and second of the weekend. The goal came at 10:57 and Baez picked up the lone assist on the play.

Philadelphia then tied the game at 15:58 on a Kolby Vegara goal. His fourth of the season was assisted by Andrew Bellant.

The first period would end, tied, 1-1.

In the second period, Philadelphia took the lead when Jimmy Glynn scored his first goal of the season at 4:07. The assist went to Konur Peterson.

Philadelphia then added to their lead at 14:33 with a goal from Aaron Maguyon, his twelfth of the year. The assists went to Carson Moniz and Jensen Zerban. The goal was a power play goal, the first power play goal the Tomahawks have given up since December 16, 2017, vs the same Philadelphia Rebels. After two periods of play, the Rebels led Johnstown, 3-1.

In the third period, Johnstown mounted pressure but it was Philadelphia that continued to build on their lead. While on the power play, Alex Frye scored with the assist going to Nicolas Appendino at 11:47 to give the Rebels a 4-1 lead. This would be more than enough to defeat the Tomahawks with the final score being 4-1.

The Johnstown Tomahawks are away next weekend when they travel across state to play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights January 26-27. This will start a month-long road trip that will include two weeks in Alaska.

The Tomahawks next home game will be February 23-24 when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Friday, February 23, 2018 is Faith and Family Night presented by Laurel Highlands Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Celebrate your faith with friends, family, and hockey fans. The team will wear special jerseys during warmups.

On Saturday, February 24 2018 it's Guns & Hoses VI presented by the Tax Lady and Advance Office Systems. The battle of the badges continues into its sixth season as Police and Firefighters compete to benefit the Special Olympics. The Charity game starts at 4:30pm.
